If there is one work event out of the year that I both loathe and adore it is the Walk for PKD.
The whole month of September and most of August and October are focused on this event. Michael hates it because even when I'm at home I'm thinking about the Walk. This year I've been so focused on the work aspect of it that I haven't spent much time on my own fund raising or team recruiting - so this is my final plea.
Please support me and the Walk for PKD!!
And if you are in Kansas City join me at the Walk 9:30am at Theis Park!

It really is a good time, and a good cause.
Plus - Tomorrow will officially be my 4 year anniversary at the PKD Foundation - help me to celebrate by helping to fund research to fight this disease.

Letter to the Mayor
Dear Mayor Funkhouser;
Today was my first experience with active participation in local government - aside from years of diligent and researched voting. After today I am heartsick and deeply disappointed with the way things work - or don't work. At 11:00am today I received notification that today's 2:00pm public meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission would include an item to rescind resolution 28019, replacing it with resolution 28125, a resoltion that very nearly prohibits dog parks from being built in Kansas City, namely in neighborhoods. I took the rest of the day off of work to attend this meeting. I arrived early and signed up to speak on the form they had posted. When the meeting began Commissioner Fierro stated that no one here to represent the dog parks would be allowed to speak. Several people attempted to discuss the dog park issue and were shut down. Without any public comment and without allowing anyone who had officially signed up to speak, speak the Kansas City Parks and Recreations Commissioners unanimously passed Resolution 28125. In fact a press release announcing the passing of the bill was out before the meeting was even adjourned.
This resolution sates the following site selection factors:
Mayor Funkhouser, I have seen you at meetings supporting this proposed dog park, I've even seen Maria there. Your seeming passion for improving the use of our local parks and making them a place for all - people with pets included - was one of the reasons why you received my vote. But I am sorely sadden by the way your Parks and Recreations Commissioners conduct business. Namely Commissioner Stackhaus who seemed gleeful to see us shut down without being able to voice our concerns. Are these the kind of people you have selected to be on your commissions and boards? I am outraged and disappointed.
I will admit that certain members of our group became loud and assertive, a tack that I do not find helpful - it is in my nature to be passive. But after today I see that it might be the only way. I hope that you can show me that my first look into local government was not the way things are really handled - that public meetings really do involve the public, that resolutions are not just passed without the input of the people it affects. - Locate off leash areas in large community and regional parks where appropriate space is available.
- Avoid area that abut or are in close proximity to neighborhood and residences.
- Locate where there will be minimal impact upon the total visual character of a park.
- Locate where adequate parking will be available nearby

Just a Wednesday
Eating: Chicken Tacos with Avocado

Wishing: For the drive to finish my many projects
Note the many things on my desk. The quilt, the pieces for the Bitty Booties, the beginnings of a collar for Tallulah from the new book Bend the Rules Sewing.
Reading: The Subtle Knife
Enjoying: The Air Conditioning
Feeling: Frustrated the Apple Mighty Mouse doesn't work well when your index finger is in a band-aid.
Realizing: That Michael taking up model making has tipped the scales. So between my knitting and his modeling we are officially an 80 year old couple in the bodies of 20 somethings.
Questioning: Male Camel Toe - Seriously, its not a good look on women - its worse on a man. Now I hate the baggy pant look. You know the one - when the guy can only use one hand for any task because the other is being used to hold up his drawers and we are all being flashed his boxers anyway. It's not a good look people! But possibly worse than that are pants that are too tight. I shouldn't be able to see which side you "dress".
Men of the world, I beg you, for all of our sakes - wear appropriately sized pants!

Spring Fever
It was beautiful today. Absolutely wonderful outside. I came home, threw off my sweater, donned my Capri pants and flip flops and just smiled. Yippee for warm weather! I made some veggie kabos and was ready to fire up the grill when the storm moved in.
Now it is cold again. And wet.
Spring is not here.
It was a dirty, dirty trick.

Desperate Plea for Yarn
I am more than halfway through a project and I've run out of yarn. I've run out of Rowan Linen Drape in Cornflower. Rowan no longer produces this yarn and I can only find in on e-bay in Watermelon or Splash, colors that won't quite work with the soft blue and yellow baby sweater that is so close to being finished. Well not really SO close, but the end is in sight and for once I felt like I was going to finish something. The knitting gods are apparently not with me. This is what I get for using my stash. sigh.
