Michael turns 30 tomorrow. Last night we celebrated with a few friends and family and Shawnee Mission Park. I was nervous about the weather at first but it turned out to be fantastic. The view of the lake was breathtaking, there was a campfire with all of it's fragrant goodness, great food and lots of fun as we celebrated Michael's advanced age with a Transformers birthday cake!
I'm so pleased that we managed to pull off a small party for him. 30 is a birthday that should be celebrated.

Hot Hot Heat
Today I dragged Michael out to Lawrence, KS to go look at fabric. And I didn't really have to drag him. He willingly drove over an hour on the hottest day of the year to spend $20.00 on burgers and fries at local burger and then go to Sarah's fabrics so we could scout out fabric for the little bird's room.
I'm shocked that I get him.
I'm also shocked that we found some fabric that we like - for now. We decided to hold off getting anything until September when we find out if we will be bringing home Eleanor or Henry/Finnegan/Oliver/Jonah/Zorro/Beauregard. It was also nice to see what kind of things Michael envisions for the room.
Upon returning home - covered in sweat and utterly exhausted we crawled into bed and took a nap. Aside from a quick trip to the grocery store, I have been unable to do much else. The heat and the growing a person has taken it out of me.
I think I'll wait for it to cool off before asking to be taken on any more excursions.

One Year Ago Today
Michael and I were married.
A year went by so quickly. Micheal is my best friend and while we didn't see much of each other this weekend as he was engulfed in freelance-a-paloza and I in winter cleaning, we did enjoy a nice evening out where we ate steak and remembered our wedding day. Here's to many more great years. (50 at the very least, though truth be told I'm hoping for 60)

Michael turned 29 yesterday.
He is the kindest man I have ever known, and will always stand up for the things he believes in.

Worlds of Fun
Michael and I went to Worlds of Fun yesterday. It is the only real amusement park in Kansas City and we only went because Michael's company provided us with free tickets, free parking and $10.00 "beagle bucks" each. That is the only way we could ever afford to go. Plus there is the issue that Michael and I both do poorly on rides. The V factor.
We arrived at about 10:30, took some time to get our bearings and then proceeded to ride a total of 4 rides.
1) The Viking Voyager - Really it is just a log ride through an elevated water way with one big drop at the end. I hid behind Michael and managed to stay dry.
2) The Fjord Fjarlane - A spinning ride where your car is lifted extra high sometimes for extra fun. (There was actually a baby on this ride. A baby! She had a great time - I clung to Michael the whole time. Who's the REAL baby?!)
3) The Sea Dragon - Nothing more than a giant swing shaped like a viking boat. Still it had me curling up like a little girl and freaking out a little more than is appropriate for someone my age.
4) Fury of the Nile - I remember this ride being scary and very wet! We manged to stay dry and un-afraid. It was easy and a rather pleasant trip around a man made "river"
Worlds of Fun is broken into regions. Scandinavia is where we spent the most time - in honor of my heritage - that and the other regions have "real" roller-coasters and we don't do that sort of thing. There were a few more rides that we could have done, but really we were happy with our 4 rides, our $20.00 worth of BBQ and a day of terrific people watching.

Some days (make that weekends) I should just stay in bed.
So Saturday I hit Michael in the head with a tennis ball.
Sunday I blew a fuse burned him in the arm with an iron.
No, no - not like that.
Sunday night I decided to iron my shirt for Monday morning, instead of doing a rush job in the morning - which is my usual routine. Every morning I iron, the ironing board is on my dresser for easy use. Well in the morning the only thing running is the iron - not so at night. The computer was running and three lights were on. So we blew the fuse. Clearly we can have lights or ironed clothes - not both.
Michael was running around trying to unplug everything before heading to the circuit breaker when he moved the dresser and the iron (which apparently had time to heat up before blowing the fuse) fell on his arm. It wasn't that hot, but still it's not a good thing and added to the general grumpy attitude that comes when the lights go out.
Everything is now back up and running, although I have been asked to move the iron to a different room.
It was a very dangerous weekend for Michael - let's hope he fares better this week.

Also at the park
So yesterday while at the park the inevitable happened.
I hit Michael in the head with a tennis ball.
A tennis ball flung from the "Flinger".
From about 2 feet away.
He was standing to my side....I was aiming forward.
I have horrible aim.
This is the first time I have ever actually hit him, but I have come very close many, many, many times. So we all knew this would happen.
I'm not allowed to use the flinger anymore.

Secrets
I don't like secrets. I hate them in fact. I like mystery novels, but I like to read the last three chapters not first, but about half way through when it starts to get suspenseful. I find it reassuring. Then I go back and finish reading from where I left on until the end.
The lead up to when Michael proposed was terrible! I was a horrible sneak and found the receipt for the ring but not the ring itself. And I found the receipt MONTHS before hand. It was terrible! Luckily or unluckily Michael knows me and my loathing of secrets and snooping tendencies so he hid the ring very well. Hopefully this will be the last time he keeps secrets from me!
Also do to my dislike of secrets I enjoy puzzles. I like to figure things out. Tonight when we watched The Prestige I was figuring things out, taking mental notes and trying to figure it out. So the end didn't really come as a surprise (parts of it did, but not the end) in fact I so knew what was going on that I left the room because there was no need for the clear showing of the answer. I assumed that Micheal knew it too. His "Ooohhh" proved otherwise. He watches movies with such a willing suspension of disbelief, just going along with the story...enjoying it...that he doesn't puzzle it out. He lets them keep their secrets. Something I can never do.
I kind of envy his lack of secret fear...
...he always waits till the end to read the last chapters of the book...
